I could not wait to get into this one because I wanted to get the answers, and I was so sure that the Reina from the past was actually Rai. I also thought that the little sister was the ultimate big bad of the story. Still, I didn't realize that Reina actually really loved her. It was crazy. But overall, this book kind of fell a little flat for me because the tone shifted. We weren't really a bully romance in this one. I wanted that tension back and to focus more on the suspense angle from which the first book started. But I still enjoyed this one more than Jonathon's, so I count this duet as a win.

“I cry for the little girl who had to run from one city to another, for the teenager who coveted someone she thought didn't belong to her, and for the woman who lost him all over again.”

I enjoyed this one much more than its predecessor! :) I’m glad that we got all of the information that we were lacking in this book & that we got some setup for Rai and Kyle’s story.

Reina begins remembering some things from the past like her twin but there’s a couple mysteries that Asher and her have to figure out together. Like who is the cloud003 IG person? What were the details surrounding Ariannas suicide?
Reina also is tasked with exposing her past to Asher and wondering if he’ll stay or hate her.

This wasn’t my favorite Rina Kent couple but all the mysteries were fun to try to piece together. I’ve already read God of malice which is about their son Killian, so this helped put his story into a bit more context.

One thing I usually love about Kent’s books is the camaraderie the main characters have with their friends. I wish we had gotten a bit more interaction between Reina, Sebastian, and Owen.

“This is so fucked up,” she murmurs, as if translating my thoughts. “That we are.”

This book follows Asher Carson and Reina Ellis trying to figure out Reina’s past, along with figuring out why Asher’s revenge on Reina isn’t quite what it seems.

This book also didn’t hit the mark for me. It was good and okay, but probably not a book I would return and reread from. At the end of the book I was more excited to read the side character’s future books.

Tropes:
- Anmesia
- Toxic relationship
- Revenge
- Arranged marriage
