This book will not be for everyone... and you must take the narrator's type of humor in stride. However, it was funny and creative. It had some great text features and pieces of writing that would be awesome to use as mentor text to engage your students (especially superhero-loving kids and fans of Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Big Nate, etc.).

How to Grow Up and Rule the World by Vordak the Incomprehensible is a hilarious how-to book for would-be Supervillains. Vordak the Incomprehensible cornered me at BEA and made me laugh evilly in order to get a copy of this book, an activity which I must say had me grinning for quite some time after. I really wish I had a picture of him; although if you picture the cover character in real life, you have a pretty good idea of what he looked like.

Reading this book was a great relaxer, and I feel fully prepared to initiate my world domination plans soon. If you are looking for a very, very fast read with quirky humor, you should definitely pick this up.

I can't even speak to the quality of the illustrations or the writing in this book, mostly because I'm just giggling. It's dumb, it's silly, it's MAD magazine, it's engaging, it has been passed around the 4th grade like the lice epidemic we couldn't seem to get rid of two years ago. It even encourages creativity. EEEEVIL creativity. I do love this book.

Vordak the Incomprehensible: How to Grow Up and Rule the World is a rip-roaringly hysterical book that I would hand to fans of anything remotely funny. I am passing this one on to my sister to share with her high school resource English class. Talk about high interest!

You have to read this book prepared to go, “Muaaahhaaahaaa!” all the while. Vordak the Incomprehensible is here to teach you how to be an evil villain. Thanks to Vordak, you can learn how to choose the best evil villain name, how to choose the best sidekick/evil henchman, and how to deal with those pesky and perky superheroes. The book is also full of wickedly funny illustrations to help you out in your quest for super evildom. And the best part is that Vordak only asks for $13.99 (the price of the book), and a place in your evil regime. You know, when you take over world. (Hmm, come to think of it, how come Vordak is asking YOU to do all the work while he hangs out in his parents’ basement in NJ).

Highly recommended for middle school and high school readers. I found myself laughing out loud over and over!

Very funny. Would definitely hand to kids who love superheroes (it's a different take... a look from the other side of things). I think it's got potential to appeal to a wide range of ages, definitely kids and tweens, possibly even some teens.

This book had some laugh out loud moments. I will definitely be recommending this book to those that have world domination aspirations, or you know just regular kids who like humor.

I bought this book for my 10 year old. He has in the past enjoyed illustrated/snarky humor books like Captain Underpants and Diary of A Wimpy kid. So I figured he'd enjoy this one as well.

I read it before giving it to him and while the humor isn't directed to my 40-something self, I can still appreciate the over-the-top pronouncements:

"I demand that tremendous care be taken while reading my masterpiece. Wear only gloves made from the finest acid-free Ethiopian ibex hair when handling the book. No other clothing--just the gloves."

or

"This chaptabulous chapter’s mind-numbing know-how will have you assembling a first-rate band of bad guys in no time."

And the various instructions that are de rigueur in your quest for EVIL masterminding such as:

- Building a Top-Notch EVIL Organization ("At times they can be difficult to control, but at their best they can be a relentless plague upon civilization”)
- What to wear when being EVIL (your choice of dark black, black, light black or dark, dark, dark, dark gray.)
- How to laugh evilly: MUAHAHAHAHAHAH
- How to create and finance your EVIL lair

and so on...

It is absurd, hysterical and appropriately illustrated and my kid loved it.

On a more serious parental note, I appreciate the vocabulary included in the book. Big three and four syllable words that forced my kid to sometimes ask what something meant even if he could figure it out in context.

Good book. Recommend!

Vordak the Incomprehensible has written a manual to help aspiring super-villains rule the world. Filled with tips on minions, evil lairs and superheroes, the guide will help young evil-doers avoid some of the pitfalls that Vordak has tripped over, I mean, avoided.

Written with a strong sense of humour by Scott Seegert, this book will appeal to the reluctant reader. Worth picking up.
