Great follow up to book 1! I really enjoyed where the story headed. This is the last one in the series that I truly enjoyed.

Aveyard's writing style is very nice, but OMG this book was sooo boring.
I feel like nothing happened at all & I felt myself drifting of so may times while reading, that I had to re-read a lot of parts.
I also feel like this book has way too many characters.
I couldn't even keep up with all of their names & abilities..
I'm not sure if I will read the next book.

I just finished this sequel about a week ago and I really enjoyed it. It was slightly my predictable than the first book but still well-written. I wish that some of the plot had been more detailed like the battles and the training of the Newbloods but hopefully the third book will satisfy those wants for me. Can't wait until next spring!

Mare Barrows wants to save the newbloods from total obliteration from the new, evil king, Maven. She is so busy fighting her own demons, she is having difficulty discerning her own heart. With the exiled prince, Cal, her best friend, Kilorn, and captain of the Scarlet guard, Farley, Mare is embarking on a journey to take down the evil that is trying to destroy her, the rebellious Reds, and all that she loves.

Watching the rebels slowly become as bad as they powers they fight against is inevitable but still sad. I am hoping the rebels can turn this pattern around before it becomes another round of the same behavior.

This one wasn’t quite as good as the first one. There were a LOT of elements of the Hunger Games and Divergent books in this volume. And it really seemed to be quite drawn out, with the ending seemingly rushed.

I’ll go ahead and finish the series, but hopefully the next book won’t be a slog-fest.
