Breaking news spreads across the plains like bushfire, the six Earth-goddesses are planning to hold a conference in which they hope to persuade humanity to see how the world is on the brink of collapse. Since most have never even laid eyes upon the goddesses, the trickster coyote thinks that a trip to the event is called for. The problem is that it's for female creatures alone. But that shouldn't be a problem for a wily coyote.

With a strong environmental message in celebration of Earth Day (22nd April), Agard has presented us with a poetic narrative that feels like it could have been unearthed from times past. Cunning and trickery, wordplay and wisdom roll off the pages and Grobler's mixed-media illustrations enhance that anarchic sense of an animal kingdom full of character. There is humour here in coyote's antics, Agard's words and Grobler's cast and an interesting twist with a male character coming up with the punchline in a female-only gathering.

What was happening though at the male-only conference and what was coyote's wife doing there dressed in his clothes? Anarchy and humour prevail in a tale that feels as traditional as it does modern. I enjoyed it!
