ā€This need to get lost in something other than yourself. Lose yourself. Erase yourself. So that none of your awful, wrong self remains, not one blessed thingā€œ
I know this book is mainly about addiction. But Kathleen Glasgow portraits the need to lose yourself in someone else so beautifully. I have never heard someone get that! I do thisā€¦ Like a lotā€¦ and I so get Emmyā€¦
Ā
But now speaking of the book!
Another Masterpiece, my personal second favorite glasgow book!!
The struggle of addiction, no matter what kind, is a life long process, fight and ā€œstruggleā€! What I love about these books ist that theyā€™re brutally honest! No need to glorify, romanticise or talk things down! Life is brutal!Ā
Yet these books have something so wonderful and beautiful about them! They seem fragile and I always get the need to protect everyone in the booksā€¦
I donā€™t know how to say it, but I wouldnā€™t be the version of myself that I am rn without these books!Ā
forever grateful <3

wth. I have NEVER read the authorā€™s note or acknowledgements for a book, but I did for this one. This was so utterly heartbreaking and inspiring all at once, and tears were def present lol. I need to go recover now. This is such a deep and REAL story of addiction, heartache, and the lows of life. Itā€™s not going to be fun or lighthearted, but itā€™s the cold hard truth to so many peopleā€™s lives and is SO eye opening. Iā€™m shook 100/10 recommendĀ

When I finished this book I cried for nearly twenty minutes. Iā€™d already been crying for a long time before that. This book hits incredibly close to home and managed to smack you right in the face with such incredible realism and emotion. Almost everything Joey and Emmy said and thought - throughout the book, yes, but particularly right at the very end - struck such a note with me. I fell in love with Joey almost instantly because he was like me. He was messed up and unsure of how to help himself, and this was shown in such a real and honest way that I couldnā€™t help but love him. Emmy, too; the way sheā€™s desperate to help her brother despite the fact that thereā€™s really nothing she can do is so raw and painful. Absolutely incredible, and a book I will be pushing onto as many people as I physically can.
