With this volume, the series finally came into focus for me—it wants to be campy, and if I am looking for character development, I'm reading the wrong comic. It's still not exactly my thing, but it's well-told, enjoyable brain candy.

Read as individual issues.
I'm a huge BKV fan and this is quickly becoming one of my favorites from him. A lot of folks compare this series to Stranger Things but it reminds me of Star Wars by way of David Lynch. A bunch of everyday girls get pulled away into a war between time travelers and just want to find their way home. I bring up Star Wars because like the Last Jedi backlash, I can imagine some readers getting frustrated by this series and that isn't doesn't seem overly concerned with answering all the questions. I say that as a warning but I love it. The Paper Girls are the focus, not answering everything about the war that serves as backdrop for their adventure. The visuals are beautiful and surreal.

4.5 stars. Yay, things are starting to finally make sense! ...kinda...dammit, I have to go back and reread all the previous ones. Fave quote: "why don't you dial it back Peppermint Patty?" "Why don't you blow me Fright Night?" 😂

I'm loving this series. I really love the emphasis on women in STEM and the core message of sticking with your friends as a way of saving your future!
