To sum up this book shortly, ‘Instagram is bad.’ The issue with this book is that there’s no nuance. We see our main character, Anna, at two different times in her life. Her at 19, trying to be social media famous and changing herself for it, constantly getting new procedures and doing things she doesn’t want, like having sex with random men, for money. We also see her at 35, where she regrets her decisions and undergoes a surgery to reverse her past procedures. All the characters in this book either love themselves or go through extreme measures to change themselves because of social media. It just was bland to me- it desperately needed some kind of nuance. The author writes great, and there are some fantastic one-liners in this, but this is ultimately a let down because I disliked the message it conveyed to me.

I'm not sure if I love or hate this book yet. Although the plot is very different, the vibes remind me of Luster by Raven Leilani, with a bit of My Dark Vanessa. This is one I need to read other folks' reviews of.

I liked the story of an instagram model getting loads of plastic surgeries under the guise of female empowerment, while really being objectified and exloited by men. I wish there was a more in depth examination of the Aesthetica procedure she later gets to have all those changes undone.
