A crisp book that can be read swiftly, it takes you back to the yesteryears.

Being a storyteller myself, the title of the book immediately drew me towards it. Afraid of being disappointed, I began reading this with immense reluctance. However, once I started, the pages kept flying - one after the other. There were many pauses for me - especially where the author talks about how he promised not to create beauty out of things but out of words. However, as we proceeded along, I was left wanting for more conversations between the queen and the storyteller.

The writing definitely has a flair and smoothness to it - but with Sufism as the backbone and theme of the book, a lot more could have been done. However, this book did leave me thinking about love and trust.

This is a beautiful book. I picked it up at random from the library and I'm so glad I did. This is a clever and subtly woven story about stories and the very art of storytelling itself. It deals with friendship, honour, love and betrayal and draws the reader in inextricably.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The development of the story being told by the storyteller is layered, emotional and exciting. The characters are cute. The Begum abs the Storyteller’s connection is really special. Would recommend for a relaxing read.
