Love love love!

I have a serious love/hate relationship with this series as a whole. Basically, I love it, and I just hate that it's not complete yet so I can't just buy the whole series and binge to my little hearts content.

The characters continue to grow in each new book, and it's really not fair to complain (much) when the author is putting out almost a new book every month. Only complaint in this one were a couple of GLARING typos - one of the character names and... just the name of the alien race. Little things. :D but even those didn't stop me from devouring the whole book on a day and reading it at an outdoor concert with a friend and getting her hooked after I had her read the diaper scene.

Another entertaining story in the Kurtherian Universe! Lovable characters, funny anecdotes, and casual horseplay among the teams make all these books just fun to read. I've never been a Sci-Fi reader, but these make it fun to read, so it's not too bad (Although, I am missing my dragons and wizard/mage stories I normally read). I've thought about reading all the books in this "world" but I really have no interest in some of the off-shoots, like the Boris Chronicles. To me, Boris just wasn't that interesting of a character that I wanted to know more about him.

There are things about this series that I do like. The world is fairly original and the premise is engaging. I do find the characters, who are likeable in general, to be rather 2 dimensional and the political overtones to be frustrating and not my cup of tea. I won't go so far as to say that the stories are misogynistic, as some have said, but they are obviously written by a man who was raised in a patriarchy even though he's trying to make his female characters strong. I think he misses the mark with it, though, and ends up making them a bit... comic-book like. I often feel like I'm reading fan-service for adolescent boys who have been raised in politically conservative environments.

That said, Emily Beresford is an excellent narrator and I hope that we get to hear more from her when she is finished narrating this series. She does multiple voices quite well and enables immersion easily.
