I didn't quite feel like this deserved to be a three-star book... but not a two star either.

I had very high hopes at the very beginning, but after the first chapter it went downhill really fast. What I mean by downhill is the writing became very... "stereotypical teenager talk" that is the best way I can explain it. It just seems very on the surface, and it doesn't go in depth. There were several places that could have gone deeper but didn't quite get there.

This book was about a girl (Chloe) who finds out the father she never knew (he died before she was born) was from a very rich family in South Korea. Long story short she goes there trying to find out more about her father and his family and to "find herself", but it's not the perfect picture she imagined. At the end of the book, she finds a deeper connection with her dead father.

BUT the ending is what bugged me the most!!! When she finally realizes she doesn't need the validation of her father's family to KNOW her father could have been deep and moving. What could have been a powerful moment.... just wasn't. It was very on the surface (sorry if I use that phrase too often) and sugarcoated.

Overall, it was good. I probably wouldn't read it again though. For an age recommendation I personally would say 14+ only because there was a slight amount of swearing and also there is a party scene where a boy hints at mature themes.

I got to be honest. The Noh Family irked me. Was it the K-drama it was advertised as? Yes. Was it entertaining? Yes. Was there cattiness and back-stabbing like none other? Yes. Was there the fabled 'umbrella' scene? YES! So, what's my beef with The Noh Family. Chole came across to me as one of the shallowest characters I have ever read. Sadly, all the characters are just surface deep. I never really felt for any of the characters. Never wanted to root for Chloe. Honestly, I felt like she was more the villain than the Noh family was, and you could smell their corruption from miles away. Finally, when I feel like I am getting to know Chloe and her mom. Even her friends. And the story is getting beneath the surface it's all over. As much as I would love to know where everyone ends out in a few years I don't know that I would revisit the story of The Noh Family. Gonna give this title 3 ***. It is still a fun read with no attachments - just the way the Noh's like it.

This book read exactly like a K-Drama which (duh) I expected. The main character, Chloe and her best friend Hazel, love watching K-Drama’s and this book had MANY tropes from one. Long lost family, mean/jealous cousins, car crash scene, being excluded/kept away from family, a family member is dying, etc etc. I think I would have liked the story more as a TV show honestly. As it is in book form, I couldn’t get into it as much. I still did really like the concept but felt that the ending left a bit to be desired. (Though it also felt like a K-Drama trope with her grandmother showing up at the end).

Summery: For the first eighteen years of her life, it's always been just Chloe and her mom. However, in her search to find more about her ancestry and Dad, she takes a DNA test. This leads to her getting in touch with a long lost cousin and being invited to Korea to meet her father's family.

If you like twists on kdramas about uncovering long lost relatives and chaebol families then this is a good book for you!

Predictable, but enjoyable. About to seek out the sequel.

Can't begin to describe how bad this was! This reads like a book written after watching a couple of kdramas with flat characters. The main character's behavior towards her mom was the most infuriating. Wouldn't recommend this book.

This book was recommended to me, and I did enjoy it! I did get upset with the mc for her actions, but I guess it can be justified given how young she is. Like it was a bit obvious how the family was going to treat her pretty early on in the book, & she still continued to be with them and putting off her mom. Which was another thing. Like I couldn’t really get behind her not liking her mom, even if it was kinda justified. Like I get it’s just her and her mom & her mom couldn’t really be there all the time, but to basically shove her mom aside for people she’s never met just to get information about her dad was insane to me, personally. I did enjoy reading the book though! 3.7 / 5
