I could not have loved this collection more: funny sad and hopeful, these wonderful stories are all united by a profound sense of hope and joy, the sinple pleasure of female friendship or late night naked swim in a pond. In that sense they reminded me a lot of Ali Smith's writing, but they were also unafraid of darkness and cynical snarkiness, more reminiscent of Gwendoline Riley. Being reminded of both these writers is honestly one of the biggest compliments I can think of. I can't wait to read more by her.

This was an interesting read. It took me a while to ease into, I think I found the protagonist - Annie, who reappears in every story - a bit jarring. Some stories felt more accomplished than others; I especially enjoyed ‘Good Solid Obliterating Fuck’ (a masterclass in dialogue) and ‘Sex In New Orleans’ (such wonderful scene setting). There are a lot of memorable moments in here that do capture the essence of the book, that being the joyfulness and messiness of life.  Nearly every story featured a strong reliance on alcohol as a vehicle of enjoyment so if you have a complicated relationship with alcohol I’d bear that in mind before reading this one.
