This is a neat collection of all sorts of things young Kerouac wrote and some of them even allow us a glimpse of what eventually became of his writing that many so much admire. Every piece of this work is forged with such clear youthful fervor and brutal confidence. Fragments that resonated the strongest with my temperament were: Where the Road Begins, The Birth of a Socialist, The Romanticist. Truly, for the work of such a young lad, all of this is undoubtedly magnificent, yet simultaneously, I cannot love it as much as I love older Kerouac.
