There was a smexy cowboy, a smexier grease monkey, and baking as foreplay, y'all!

This story was totally adorable and 100% up my alley. Given the length of the story, I was impressed by the fact that both MCs popped off the pages full of cuteness and insecurities and lust. It also had a nice arc to it; no unnecessary conflict or angst, just the typical bumps in the road that come with those early, awkward days when you're first getting to know someone. 'Twas a lovely story. Plus... Soap bubbles. I want to come back as Justin's soap bubbles in another life. ;)

As always, my thanks to the author for participating in the Love's Landscapes event (even when it was *slightly* against your will!) and for all of the behind-the-scenes work that editors, beta readers, and the MM Group Mods put into making this FREE event a massive success! What a great way to find new-to-me authors like Birmingham.

Duke is the ranch cook and he's intrigued by the new guy, Justin. He's not sure what to make of him, but he suspects there's something under the surface. And when he finds it, it turns out there's even more there than he imagined.

I don't have much more in the way of a spoiler-free synopsis. This is short, but it's a well-written story and worth the read. Cowboys, pie, and sexy times. What more does a person need? The characters are developed and there is a richness to this world that just seems to flow right off the page. Can't really go wrong with this one.

A grand addition to the DRitC range, 3.5*
Enjoyed this little romp in Texas - cowboys, pie, pool and a few beers!
Justin and Duke spent most of the book looking and liking so was nice when they got together.

27.4.20 reread - enjoyable fun

1.8.21 reread - a good read, smiles for miles!!

Well done! Great MCs but, almost more importantly, great secondary characters!

Cute short story set on a ranch (one of my favourite things to read!) and with a refreshingly tolerant cast! Most often cowboy books have some sort of angst related to homophobia, but there was, at most, just a couple of references to this, and it was quite nice to read something different for once.

What a delicious story about cowboys and pie. I mean delicious both in the sense that there are cowboys involved and really, where can you go wrong? But I also mean delicious in the literal sense because this is a story good enough to eat.
The word "pie" is mentioned several times in the tags that go along with this tale of epic pie proportions (or portions if you prefer) and the tags don't lie. There is pie, in abundance, and cowboys by the bucket load. There is also a sequence with cowboys eating pie.

After reading this I feel hungry. I need to find a recipe for pecan pie and I need Duke to come and bake it for me. I also need Justin to come and wash up afterwards.

Duke and Justin were sweet and hot and I would quite happily read more about them and their ranch family. Oh and pie of course.
