dry as most biography type books can be but i have definitely learned a lot from his vast array of interviews. considering the people who were in their 20's and 30's during the 60's are now the ones in power i found it helpful to have some background on how that decade influenced them.

I give this book 4 and a half stars. I enjoy Brokaw's style of interviewing interesting and influential people from the Sixties and especially of following up on what became of them, what they are doing today, what they think now of what they did then, etc.
This was the time preiosinto which I was born and it was always something I was trying to figure out as a teenager. I was always amazed that Civil Rights and Women's Rights had to be fought for so recently. I found this book very interesting and entertaining and evenhanded.

Brilliantly written and reported, wonderfully insightful and reflective. Of course, it's Tom Brokaw! He brings together a variety of voices to tell the story of the Sixties and its lasting effects on American politics and culture. It's never boring or preachy, often emotional and enlightening.

This was a pretty informative book, but it left with 20x as many questions as I had before I read it. When I read this it feels like the 60's had so much chaos and violence and was just a terrible time to live. But it prolly didn't feel that way while living in it. Makes me wonder when people will write a book about the 2000's and how that will feel vs how it actually was. I want to sit down with my parents and chuckle with them about life in the 60's. I was surprised there wasn't really any talk about the Cuban Missile Crisis. I'm not sure why. The only info that I know about it is from X-Men First Class.

Webb reminded me of Lieutenant Dan. And I wished he had whipped his professor for mocking him for serving in Vietnam. Why was there so much hatred towards the soldiers? It wasn't there fault they were over there. Retarded hippies. I'm glad people aren't furious at our soldiers for serving in the Middle East. I don't remember George Bush talking much about Karl Rove in his book [b:Decision Points|8099187|Decision Points|George W. Bush|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1320428975s/8099187.jpg|12842742]. Maybe he did and I didn't pay attention. I like how Tom did a real in-depth interview with each person he spoke to, you could feel like you knew them a lot better.

Some parts of this book aged like milk, but it was still worth the time as a whole.

Brokaw describes this one as being like a high school reunion. Person's famous and lesser known reflect on what they believe the influence of the 60s has been. Their specific role during the time period is also described. Entertainers, veterans, journalist and business leaders are featured. Brokaw does a great job of being objective and portraying a diverse cross section of the population.

Long. The last 200 hundred pages went faster than the first 400 but it took me forever to read. As informative as it was, something was lacking and I don't think much of it will stick with me.

this book took me a really long time to read (i started before christmas!) and i had to take breaks from it. it's a great read if you're into the 60s but it was too annoying at times - he should have interviewed more "average" people, as opposed to all the famous ones.
