This book's gotten a lot of hype but it didn't quite live up to expectations.

Brutal. I mean, in a good way, in an emotionally incisive way that fulfills all the promise of her short story collection. She could've written about anything and I would've read it eagerly, but that she picked a topic I've always found interesting and disturbing and uncomfortable pleases me to no end.

This novel surprised me a little. I ended up grabbing it from the bookstore because it was on clearance and it looked like a quick but fun read.

The story is simple but it has some compelling parts which make you want to keep reading. It also has some great, interesting characters.

I waffled back and forth between three and four stars, so consider this a solid three-and-a-half star rating. Full review to come!

3 and 1/2. Very entertaining book about the life of a mega movie star, from all kinds of different perspectives - his kids, his ex-wife, his girlfriend, some guy who works at the studio. Clever, nice pacing. Nothing overly literary or deep, but enjoyable and good writing.

The first time I picked this up, I thought it was good but slow, and eventually I put it down. I must have picked it back up at the right time because this weekend I sped through it and loved it. I love a peep into celebrity (even a fictional one) and this felt thoughtful and authentic.

Really loving interconnected stories and Sneed does this really well - her characters are fully realised and have such distinct voices. Considering Hollywood looms menacingly throughout, I'm happy to say that this is less plot driven action-adventure movie and more thoughtful, character driven indie/European film.

It's a fun, quick read once you get into it. The only problem I had was that it jumps around from character to character so often that it's hard to keep up with whose story line you are reading. I like hearing from different people's perspectives, but maybe not THAT many people's perspectives.
