So much secondhand embarrassment. A few very awkward situations meant to be funny, I guess. Plus the set up for failure where neither Huxley nor Lottie’s sister tell Lottie who the meeting is with, and then they get pissed when she doesn’t react exactly the way they want her to - seems like a cheap way to add drama. I usually like Meghan Quinn’s books, but this one missed the mark.

Huxley has some serious problems if he doesn’t know how to be kind in such a basic way throughout the beginning of the book, and meeting a woman doesn’t make someone learn that stuff… I need to read a book about a cinnamon roll after this.

The first of the Cane Brothers series, A Not So Meet Cute has Lottie meeting the handsome billionaire Huxley Cane on a walk when she decides she’s on a mission to catch a wealthy man to make her ex-best friend and most recently ex-boss jealous. Huxley desperately needs a fake fiancée when he convinces an important potential client that he is a relatable and caring man to land a big deal for his family’s real estate firm. As Lottie and Huxley literally bump into each other, Huxley propositions Lottie with a mansion to stay in, new clothes and money in exchange for her to act as his partner on double dates with the important client.

This story was hysterically funny. The mishaps and situations Lottie and Huxley found themselves in were ridiculous but had me laughing out loud. There were super steamy moments along with tender exchanges between the protagonists. I especially enjoyed the banter between the brothers.

The narrators were absolutely superb and only enhanced the story even more for me.

Thank you Bloom Books for the gifted copy. Thoughts expressed in this review are my own.

I’m not a fan of this book at all. The only reason I gave it two stars was that it was a quick read. I had no connection with the main characters. I didn’t really care what happened to them. They weren’t likable at all. Sure Lottie is immature at times, but Huxley is an asshole.  He’s also written inconsistently. There was also some dubious consent on both characters parts.  I definitely cringed a few times. It was cheesy in not a good way. I’ve read other enemies to lovers romances that are way better, with more lovable characters. This author is likely not for me.

Fun and easy read with all the angsty tropes we love - forced proximity, fake dating, enemies (sort of) to lovers. The characters were a little annoying at times though with not tonnes of depth, although they had good side characters and some development which was good. The spice was great, the ending was cute.

“I’m going to need to know your dick size before you leave.” “Why do you need to know that?” I ask. “Because,” she says with a smile, “I need to know if I have to act like a happy fiancée, or a truly satisfied fiancée.”

Leiselotte “Lottie” Gardner has just been fired by her best friend, and in revenge wants to get a rich boyfriend by the time her high school reunion is and stick it in her face. Along comes Huxley Cane - who is in need of a fake fiancée. Initially going along with, she changes her mind, however, Huxley won’t let her.

Huxley Cane can’t land a deal at work and decides to lie in the hope of gaining some middle ground with the man. Along comes Lottie with a crazy mind and a mouth who always defies him. Having found someone on such short notice he cannot let her slip between his fingers.
