Icy

Intriguing take on the Snow Queen with a plotline reminiscent of East of the Sun, West of the Moon. I'd been eager to read Celine's story and she did not disappoint!

Not my favorite version of a snow queen retelling but it also wasn't completely horrible.

A Crown of Snow and Ice was an okay book if I'm being honest. Not a lot stuck out to me or made me ooh and ahh. It was an interesting take on the snow queen but again, not my favorite. In it, you will meet Celine and Oliver.

Maybe it's just me, but I was hoping for more a frozen feeling than anything. Ya know? No idea if that actually makes sense but it's what I wanted. Celine is one of those free spirit kind of characters that isn't afraid or shy about anything. YET, she wasn't my absolute favorite character in the world (or this book). Maybe it's me but I was really bored with this one and her.

Enter Oliver, who was super adorable. God damn, his feelings and love towards Celine made her more likable. Heck with him by her side, I could get a little (okay, teeny tiny bit) invested into her character. Without him, then I would much rather read a book about Oliver. Just saying.

Overall, not my favorite book of the series. Maybe the next one will be better?

I liked this one more than the first two.
1) because Celeste felt more relatable, flawed in a way that made her more human instead of a princess in a fairytale. She constantly was beating herself up for how she did or didn't do something, as well as second-guessing throughout the story. I enjoyed her character way more than I thought I would just based on the little bits of interaction she had in the first book, in which she came across as a bit overly confident and I felt she was a little stuck up, but she really was none of those things.
2) The story itself was just better. I felt more invested in it, and I thought the love story was sweet.

Celine is one of my favorite of the princesses so it was wonderful to finally get her story <3

I feel like I was reading this book forever. It was tedious. By the end I was skimming the paragraphs just so I could get through the book.

Solid book in the series. Celine is a plucky young heroine after my own heart-headstrong and determined. Lot of adventuring in this book from start to finish. Big showdown between Celine and the Snow Queen that I wish had been little more drawn out —more dialogue and a little more antagonism from
The Snow Queen at the start. No real complaints. Liked the romance and relationship building.

I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the last book but I have always been biassed towards beauty and the beast retellings so do not doubt that this was a good book. I enjoyed watching Celine grow throughout this book ||especially the control of her powers|| though I do wish we had spent a little more time on this. Oliver seemed || to really care about his people, once his brain was functioning properly again, which made him a likable character||. ||Olivers self doubt was a little tedious but understandable given the situation||. I thought the lord (whos name escapes me) would feature more ||after he kidnapped them|| but no, he doesn't exist again until he is needed to push the story ||with a threat that is rather pitiful at best, I did like how it was him who kept them all alive tho so he was made important in a way,|| I just couldn't shake the impression that he could have been edited out just as easily. The adventure aspect in this book was fun. I have never read the original snow queen so I cant comment on how this retelling differs from the original. I can say that I would reccomend this series so far.
On a side note it was only reading this book that I felt like I was missing something only to find out there is an entire series based before this one called the four kingdoms. There are a couple of times when people are mentioned like we should know them which you would only know from the first series, this would not stop you understanding and enjoying the stories but I would hazard a guess that it would add something to characters like Celine (whose siblings were in the original series) so if you like the authors writing it may be worth checking those out.
