I wanted to immerse myself in Terry Pratchett’s Discworld, so I began to inform myself in the best way to do this.
Many people said not to start with the color of magic, because it was probably Pratchett’s worst book and the worst to make me want to read the rest. But this only made me pick this one first.
Why? Because I knew that if I came to love Terry’s best book, there’d be no way I’d finish reading those that are considered worse. And I wanted to read EVERYTHING.
And I think I made the right decision, for this book introduced me both to Terry Pratchet’s humor, and his fantasy world, and has helped me set the tone to start reading his better novels.
Now, about the book itself: I found it funny and entertaining. Rincewind was somehow very much relatable to me, so that’s a plus, and I loved the way Twoflower was portrayed, as it reminded me very much of those awkardly-cute Japanese tourist we get here at Spain. He was the one character to make me laugh out loud the most.
However, I do feel like it had no actual plot whatsoever, and that I was merely reading through many individual ones, so it became tiresome at some point to keep reading it.
Overall, I give this book a 3 star rating, because although it had no plot to make me want to return to it, its characters now hold a special place in my heart. Even Tethis!
