Hendricks and Pekkanen’s writing flows pretty well but it’s exhausting to be stuck in the perspectives of someone so obnoxiously naïve (aka stupid), and another whose only trait is being manipulative.

that scum only got what was coming to him.

I always enjoy books from this duo, but I never rate them highly. A lot of characters felt disposable  in this book, probably because they were sort of treated like that by some of the main characters. These same supporting characters were a little flat/one note. The short flashbacks to capture their raisin d’être very much felt like ones you’d see on TV. But unfortunately, without the constant visual reminder of the screen, I often found myself asking who was who. So while the plot is character driven, most of the characters lack dimensionality so I found myself caring little about the outcome.

You are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen was a grippy, fast-paced read.  I have been on a thriller streak lately and looking for plotlines that hold a tense atmosphere – this book did the trick.

I would recommend going into this knowing as little as possible.  The story centers on a woman, Shay, who is befriended by two sisters who have the life Shay desires.  They become quick friends and it’s easy for Shay to say “yes” to their advice and help.  When things begin to seem a little off and Shay starts to pay closer attention, the suspense takes off.

I listened on audio and would recommend that format.  The twists were not impossible to see coming, but they weren’t crystal clear either and I had fun trying to piece it all together.

Meh. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣I took these pictures eighteen months ago and finally got around to reading You Are Not Alone this week. Can I get a pat on the back for that please?! ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣As for the book, I listened to it at max speed because I was BORED. You’ve got unlikeable characters, unrealistic and ridiculous coincidences and a plot that just wouldn’t wrap itself up. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣I rated it three stars, but upon further reflection that’s probably way too generous!
