How does one person write poems that in waves of succession have your emotions ricocheting back and forth this much??? From funny to dark, empowering to futile, gender in its good in its bad, abuse to love, protest to slavery all with one cohesive and singular narrative voice? HOW?!

These poems actually sound like music. I love the rhythm and the fact that on two or more separate readings of the same poem, I can come away with very different understandings of the message. But that’s why she’s a legend.
