um. so this is Rupi Kaur's third book. i really respect and admire her for writing about such vulnerable and important topics. however. she has written three poetry books about trauma, womanhood, sexism, racism, r*pe, abuse, and i just feel like one was enough? i did really like [b:The Sun and Her Flowers|35606560|The Sun and Her Flowers|Rupi Kaur|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1499791446l/35606560._SY75_.jpg|57044162] but i feel like Home Body adds nothing?? there were a *few* very beautiful poems, that were very short. but the whole collection felt very messy and jumped between ideas without connecting them and there were like 3 poems called balance/d and 2 other poems with the exact same meaning just worded differently.
there was one poem about how she feels like people keep expecting her to write more poetry and release more books and how she has to pull the poems out of her and i think that poem kinda cemented my thoughts that this book was kind of unnecessary and forced?
however, if even one of the poems in this collection resonates with one person and helps them in some way, then i am glad it was published. (but i would 100% recommend milk & honey and the sun and her flowers over this one)
btw the 3 stars is generous because i believe anyone talking about s*xual ass*ult deserves recognition and appreciation. it's a really fucking hard thing to talk about
