This feels like such a special book and I can’t believe I’d never heard of it before. I just happened to stumble upon it on libby one day and it sounded interesting. I’m so glad I read it. This is one that would benefit from discussion, I think (as the extras at the end insinuate) as there are so many layers and so many different ways to interpret things. It’s really beautifully written and a beautiful story

This story is a somewhat dreamlike experience, told nonlinearly, in a mix of narratives from grandmother and granddaughter. Explores themes of relating to one’s family and culture, being a woman, and living in a small town as a Japanese Canadian. Great for anyone that can enjoy the ride as it unfolds without needing to understand  it all.
