This was the best one yet. Our FMC stood for all that is good and was completely selfless. Our MC was smitten and had to work hard for her affections. Maybe it was the setting and the feeling that the snow Queen was a part of it that added to the charm of the story. Either way it was an enjoyable reimagined retelling.

I really enjoyed this book. It's my favorite of the four. I would have given it 5 starts if it hadn't been (yet again) full of typos, grammar errors and the like. Every time I come across a mistake (Stil was written as Still more than once), it would draw me out of the story. I BEG Shea to hire a real copy editor. Heck, I'll volunteer to read through and catch those mistakes. It's a shame and should be very embarrassing to the author.

Such a cute tale. I wish that the characters had been more than one dimensional. The king is crazy. The prince is shy. Linnea is strong. Stil is in love (but why is never really revealed). It's a shame that Gemma is such AN ABSOLUTE IDIOT with feelings.

I enjoyed this story. It was nice to become reacquainted with characters from previous books as well as get to know new characters.

I could have grabbed another book for my reading challenge, but for some reason I just wanted to continue with this series. I love those fairytales. I love how Shea stays incredibly true to the tale and then adds a little more depth and a little more personality. I always had a hate-love relationship with this tale. There are elements of the story I like and elements of the story I don't like. I was therefore quite curious how Shea would handle them.

And just like the previous books in this series I really enjoyed reading this retelling! Since this book is basically handling two couples at once I think the book would have been even better if they had both gotten some more pagetime to show us the process of them falling in love and what they were actually liking in the other, but even though the details weren't always there, I still cared about the romances and the couples finding their happy ending.

I also really loved how it seemed like the bigger story arc, the one connecting all those tales, got a little more prominent in this tale. We actually got to see the darkness in action a little, we saw how panicked the mages were and we realized for the first time how a lot of things happening were actually all connected. I now can't wait to continue reading and I for sure can't wait to dive into the spin-off after finishing this series.

In this installment I didn't have much of a connection with both leads though. However, that's not because they weren't amazing or weren't well written. They were entertaining and they were written like all the other characters, I just didn't really have a click on a personal level with them. And that's okay, because that shows that Shea really manages to give all these heroes and heroines different personalities. I can't wait to meet our next couple!

Rumpelstiltskin is riddled with errors in the text, spelling and word choice. I find these errors to be jarring while reading. One other item on the neutral side would be how similar the tent was to J.K. Rowling's tents in Harry Potter, The Goblet of Fire.

Stil, short for Rumpelstiltskin, was my favorite character in this book. He is whimsical, unpredictable, knows his short comings as a mage and falls in love with Gemma because...

I like Gemma, and I like Stil, but mostly what I like about this story is how the women in Gemma's life support her. I love her friendship with Linnea
Spoilerwho has a very satisfying relationship arc with Prince Toril, in my opinion -- and I appreciated his character arc
and how that impacts the story.

Sometimes you finish a book because it is a good book. Sometimes you finish a book because you are stuck in a hospital for 12 hours, and the only other entertainment is your vital signs.

One thing I like about this author's retelling of fairy tales (Wild Swans excepted) is she varies from the original without going totally off the plot. And it works out really well. The characters are all believable, things work out without being too easy, and I like that it's not the same story over and over again.
