It was honestly kind of funny to read this, knowing it was written pre covid. She kept saying things like "imagine if you were in a similar situation" and I just laughed. Seeing the similaritie  from the black death to covid, like people's responses, was very interesting. Would like to see an update to this that includes covid repsonse analysis.

I also am finding out that I don't really ljke the short great courses. She does this thing where she mentions she's oversimplified a lot of things, and I just kept wanting more details.

The lectures were sometimes repetitive, but when you're trying to learn and remember, that's not necessarily bad. While focused mostly on a seven year period (1347-53), the book does put the black death in to a larger historical context. I actually learned quite a bit about society outside of the plague, which was necessary in order to truly understand the plague itself.

Unlike some of the other great courses, this one didn't refer to visual material that you can't see.

After listening to another one of Armstrong's Great Courses, I new I wanted more from her. She's clearly very passionate and knowledgeable about her field of expertise, and I found this lecture series on the black death fascinating. My only complaint was that a handful of lectures were a bit too repetitive.

Dorsey Armstrong is an incredible lecturer. What a mind! And she’s so funny and accessible. I’ve listened to everything she’s put out— multiple times!

This short lecture series was fascinating! I love learning everything I can about the Black Death, and Dorsey Armstrong delivered! It was interesting to see the connections between the Black Death and Covid, and what we can learn from both!
