Really struggled on whether to rate this 4.75 or just plain 5 stars. I was very captivated by this story. It was hard to put down, but at the same time it was sometimes hard to get through. Because it dances throughout time and a large cast of characters and contexts, it was hard to get into some of the historical chapters, but then I never wanted to return to the modern day timeline. This was very informative and inspiring, and I genuinely learned a lot while I read. This really is a masterpiece. There is soooo much to this story, and that’s part of what makes it incredible. I’m glad I read it and I would recommend it to others, especially fans of Cloud Cuckoo Land.

The story of the Sarajevo Haggadah ("the book") although mostly fictionalized is fascinating and intricately created and told. I was fascinated with the details of how the book was made, the clues that revealed its history, and the process of rare book conservation and restoration. I was less and less interested in the sexual escapades of the people of the book, and frankly put off by them eventually. Nevertheless, a good read.
