This book had so much potential but everything fell flat. There was a lot of action, but no tension. The characters were lacking depth (I craved a little more backstory or moral nuance to the villains and heroes), and the romance lacked chemistry (the main couple falls in love so quickly, and it almost seems out of character of them to do so, not to mention how little interaction and chemistry they have).
It isn’t absolutely terrible in terms of writing, but it is incredibly average with no pinpointable redeeming qualities. Twelve-year-old me might have found this book enjoyable, but alas, I now cannot.
I have read other reviews of this book which cover all the areas I have thoughts on, but as they convey it all more eloquently than I can hope to do so myself, I will leave this very haphazard review at this.
