*trigger warning* 2.5 - I should have paid more attention to them . There were quite a few twists and turns and I had to know the end but this wasn’t my fav. It was very sexually violent. It would have been higher if it had less.

Chilling, but absolutely addictive. Karin Slaughter captures our strongest fears and champions our inner heroine in the most fierce, relatable way!

I am so glad I DNF’d. Plot twist was predictable within about an hour of the audiobook, but I stayed around thinking it might be subversive. It was not. Characters were flat and almost charicatures. Insanely graphic torture/rape descriptions that didn’t seem necessary and provided little to no narrative value.
Also ENOUGH with a character being fat and eating chips as a “flaw”. Lydia’s weight was harped on all the time. A reddit commenter described some plot points as, “Lydia is fat, thus she is strong”. I think that sums up Slaughter’s effort on building the characters.

3/5 i really liked the plot of this book but to be absolutely honest- the amount of detail and the general amount of torture, rape, violence, etc that went into this book was in my
opinion- entirely unnecessary… definitely a hard read, especially as a woman……

Boy oh boy, is Pretty Girls a thriller that delivers on its dark promises. I had been meaning to read it for quite some time, and the final bit of persuasion I needed was hearing Hailey Hughes talk about it on her YouTube channel. This was my first Karin Slaughter, and I was not disappointed!
I will say that this is not a book for everyone. The entire plot centers around something that is absolutely repugnant (ahem), so if that is something that you would like to not read or think about, do not read Pretty Girls. But if you are willing to read about that sort of thing in order to also read a gripping story about the ways that tragedy can rip a family apart and, in this case, bring them back together, then I think that this is the book for you.
Also, it has one of the most "good for her" paragraphs that I've ever read.
