It took me a little while to read (4 days ish). A bit of a slow start, it took me roughly about 250 pages to really get into it. And 250 pages for actions to really take off.
The characters are well crafted, I really like them. The Zumra is chef’s kiss. Altair and Nasir relationship and interactions are the best honestly.
The pacing felt a bit off though and a few things were... rushed? Or not gone over thoroughly enough? Also, sometimes it felt like things happened for no reason, all of a sudden.
The « slow burn » was not as much of a « slow burn » as what I really like but it was good enough. We love a « blade to throat » moment and strong female characters who aren’t damsels in distress.
Also, we can appreciate the gold mine this book is when it comes to quotes. Plenty nice ones, used a lot of tabs to mark them!
Onto we free the stars now
