Dark and graphic subject matter in a easy speedy format. Can't remember the last time I read a book so quickly! Short chapters made it easy to keep reading and a good mid-week book. Hands down love Kyazike - favourite character!

This was sold to me as a ‘comedy’ and whilst it has funny elements it’s also about trauma. An important but hard read in places, this book was very eye-opening too.

not too often do we get to see black women portrayed in media that are able to make mistakes (& queenie made so many jfc), are able to be “unhinged,” are able to grow into a better person. we always have to start that way and end that way, and i’m so grateful that candice carty-williams wrote this book, because i’m sure we can all relate in one way or another.

this novel explores racism, interracial relationships, micro aggressions, slut-shaming, childhood trauma. it’s intense (like genuinely, check the trigger warnings) and as someone who can relate to some of the experiences, it’s a pill that’s hard to swallow. it’s hilarious, and Queenie, with all of her god-awful decisions and thoughts, is still a character that you just want to hug and scream “sis, therapy, now, please!”

this was a reread and i loved it as much as i did the first time!
(shout out to the author for make the side characters just as interesting as the main, i'm a Kyzaike stan)

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐I loved this book- I had read reviews comparing it to Bridget Jones and whilst Queenie does have some struggles with her relationships and finding love-this book delves so much deeper than Bridget Jones ever did imo. It deals with racism, bigotry and Queenie's search to find how to love and accept herself and how she can complete herself instead of looking for love in all the wrong people. It has humourous parts and I loved her friends (the Corgis) and her family. This book also has confronting and thought provoking parts- Queenie dealing with her own low self worth and the sexual encounters she has during her journey are very real and quite confronting in parts. A great read. #queenie #candicecarty-williams  #tea_sipping_bookworm #goodreads  #bookstagram #bookqueen #amazonkindle #litsy #scribd #borrowbox #thestorygraph
