We'll start with, I'm going to talk about Dazai a bit in this, so trigger warning in this about his talk of suicide.

I was truly just reading through some of my random manga that I intended to unhaul this month. I have owned this book for at least a year? I don't think I had ever read through it until tonight. To be fair, I have watched season 1 of the anime. And now, I'm debating whether or not I'm going to keep it and keep going with the collection.

I'm going to attempt to do a summary, since I'm so terrible at those. Bear with me.

After being kicked out of his orphanage, Nakajima Atsushi is stranded and roaming around Yokohama. There he stumbles upon a man, Dazai Osamu, floating down a river. Dazai offers Atsushi a life off the streets. With just one small caveat, Atsushi has to join the armed detective agency. An agency that doesn't hesitate to take on the dangerous cases around town. Atsushi might be in over his head, but only time will tell.

Like I said, not great at that. Anyways. I will say I was in a strange mood today. Dazai's constant jokes and attempts of killing himself typically don't bother me. Today it did. I mean, I technically know why, but none of you need to go through what I am with the knowledge I didn't need in my head, in my head. I basically mean, I don't super mind it in this book, but I could see myself growing bored of his jokes in just a few books. Like, it works a few times, but eventually the reader will get like the other agents who just don't care when Dazai does something dangerous. Also, yes I do know that this comes from the fact that Dazai killed himself, but I still feel like it will end up feeling overdone.

Anyways. I like Dazai, I know he's a major draw to the series as a whole. I think nowadays, maybe literally today, I preferred Kunikida over him, but I understand why Kunikida couldn't really be Atsushi's main entrance into the agency. I feel like if I didn't know that Dazai was such a major part of this series, I would probably quickly buy the next book. Now, I'm iffy.

The villains seem fine. The story seems interesting. I do understand that I don't get all of the minor jokes and pieces since I haven't done much classic Japanese lit reading. I like the book, I just don't know if I love the series enough.
