I have never read a book that has felt like me ever and I think this is a must read for anyone whether autistic or not. Chloe's raw emotions and stories really help me to empathise with them and with myself

This is one of the first books I've read about neurodiversity from a neurodiverse person.

I'm on my own journey, and I appreciated reading a story that echoed feelings I had growing up and experiences that I still have today.

I found occasionally it repeated something that had been said, but that's not a bad thing just an observation.

This is another tool that can help me on my own self discovery, and I hope will help me feel better that I'm 33 trying to figure this out.

I've listed some triggers in the list, but those triggers are labelled in the book as well.

I don’t know if I’ve ever read anything else that touched me so wonderfully. I read the whole thing within the space of twenty four hours (the first time in a while that I’ve read a book that quickly). It made me feel less insane.

So many things that I’d thought were just me being dramatic, so many things I’d thought everyone dealt with, so many things I’d thought I’d always be alone in: all of these, explained in such beautiful and precise terms that I can’t count the number of times I cried while reading Different, Not Less.

Chloé Hayden describes meltdowns as feeling, for an autistic person, like watching a horror film when the disc is scratched in such a way that you’re just getting the jumpscare over and over. I’ve never felt understood in my meltdowns before. Not on that level. It’s such a perfect description of what I’ve experienced at least weekly (and at times daily) for my entire life, and it gives me hope. A simple description having such a profound effect seems silly, but that’s what this whole book is. It’s just page after page of Chloé Hayden making autistic (and ADHD) readers realise that we aren’t alone.

It’s more profound than not being alone, though. Knowing, intellectually, that there are other autistic people in the world (and even having autistic friends) did not prepare me for the enormous wave of emotion evoked by the passages in this book that frankly and accurately describe aspects of autism so rarely talked about by the wider media because non-autistic people are able to ignore them.

This is by an autistic person, and for autistic people. Both are revolutionary.

Cannot recommend enough, no matter your neurotype.

Such a wonderful book. So I decided to write a review.
I feel seen and understood trough the book. I remembered stuff from my childhood which I hadn‘t remembered a long time.

She writes from the point of view of a fairytale about the life, especially the life with ADHD and ASS. And that we all will find our „happily ever after“. I really can’t wait to find mine. At the moment I am hopefully that i will find it.

And I really hope that the book will be translated into german, so I can give it to my mum. Maybe it helps her to understand me, too. So it’s not just for sufferers, it may helps also others to understand sufferers better!

This book is aimed at young AFAB adults but as a 39 year old late diagnosed autistic woman I found it to be extremely validating. Chloe's writing style exudes natural ease and positivity which made the serious, challenging and important information accessible to all. Her choice to refer to Disney and fairytale metaphors throughout made everything easily digestible and memorable. Both of these things also gave us a lot of Chloe. Unapologetic, eye sparkling, infectious Chloe.

I found the sections about how rigid education and employment systems fail us, how incorrect language and labelling is ableist and about menstruation particularly interesting. I also thank Chloe for discussing autistic women and sexual assault, including her own experiences.

I'd definitely recommend this book to newly diagnosed autistic females of any age and their parents/significant others.
