This was a really sweet, informative, and much needed book. Chloe writes in such an engaging and empowering way, not shying away from telling the hard-hitting truths and opening up about her own story. There was so much to soak in, and I highlighted a lot of passages to return to.
The only thing that brought down my score a little was that some passages were repetitive but otherwise it was a fantastic read!

this was a sweet book but probably geared to a much younger neurodivergent person (a teenager maybe?) or the caregiver(s) of one. nothing in the book felt particularly insighful and the editing could have been better as there were many repetitive parts. tbh chloe's writing reminds me a lot of my writing for a class i took in college, where we had to simply "write a paper about xyz disorder/condition/illness". she didn't say anything wrong or bad, it just felt like there may have been a lack of an outline or something.
i was a bit taken aback by the mention of "famous autistic people in history" bc 1) it's exceedingly difficult to diagnose someone who is no longer alive, 2) armchair-diagnosing strangers (living or dead) is not very chill bc of (1), and 3) it doesn't really add much to the conversation bc there are many successful and influential people alive today who talk openly about being autistic themselves... and 3a) autistic people don't need to be successful or influential to have basic human rights and/or recieve accomodations. idk it's just weird that that was included tbh

After reading the introduction, I was disappointed and wondered why the book wasn't written more scientifically. But I read on and absolutely loved Chloé Hayden's writing style. It was as if Chloé was speaking to me. I realized that I had initially compared Different, Not Less to Unmasking Autism by Dr. Devon Price, which I had read previously. Of course, Unmasking Autism was written more scientifically because Dr. Price has an academic background. It was unfair of me to expect the same from Different, Not Less, and also unnecessary as Chloé Hayden talks much more about her own experiences.
Although I'm not a huge Disney fan, I enjoyed the Disney anecdotes and references. It was fun to read. I could easily empathize with Chloé's life. I also liked the cautionary warnings about sensitive topics. This book overall has such a positive take on autism and left me feeling good after I finished it.

I bought this book because I wanted to learn more about autism and knew Chloe as a autistic character and also a person with autism in real life from Heartbreak high. That's why I decided to buy and read that book which was a really good decision.
As someone who has some similar experiences is this book just inspiring. I can only recommend this book to everyone, it doesn't matter if you are neurodivergent or neurotypical or if you know or don't know someone neurodivergent. Just a wonderful book.
