I requested this book from the lovely people at Hardie Grant.
I absolutely loved this beautiful children’s book. It is inspired by the 2015 ballet production of The Sleeping Beauty, directed by David McAllister and designed by Gabriela Tylesova. Despite not being lucky enough to have seen the ballet performed, the addition of Tylesova’s beautiful illustrations made me feel as though I had.
Gabriela Tylesova's unique and stunning illustrations are full of movement, texture and lavishness and add so much to the story. This was Tylesova’s first foray into book illustration and I’m sure it won’t be her last; she has done a marvellous job.
David McAllister’s writing was lovely; beautifully written but simplistic enough for children to follow. However, I would have liked the story to have been a little bit longer, as the ending felt slightly rushed.
I thoroughly enjoyed this gorgeous book. I hope that David McAllister and Gabriela Tylesova continue to create beautiful stories together.
