Extremely goofy but plenty of twists and some creative violence and by the end I was emotionally attached to a specific fish so I think that's the sign of a worthwhile read. This is my first Carl Hiaasen but I Get It and I think reading one every summer seems like a good strategy going forward.

I wouldn't have guessed that I enjoy a mystery about bass fishing, but I did. Again Hiaasen sucked me in with he quirky characters. This is the last book I have by him, and have some other stuff I plan on reading next, but I will come back to him again. His books are quick reads and they keep you guessing and laughing.

Growing up, I was a big fan of Hiaasen's children's books, so I was quite pleased when I recently learned that he had also written books for adults. This book shared many of the elements that I had so enjoyed in my adolescence, but I appreciated being able to see Hiaasen's style used without the restraint needed when writing for a younger demographic. The story was fun, well-paced, and at many points surreal feeling, but never so outlandish as to completely take me out of the story. With that said, I saw one review here that articulated one of my consistent gripes while reading this book. It tended to be rather mean. Only a handful of characters are written to be likable, with the rest being reduced to being painfully stupid or aggravatingly hateful. But, these negative points did not detract to the point of ruining the piece as a whole. It was still enjoyable, and I've already moved on to the second Skink book.

Thought it was going to be just another cozy mystery, but it was very edgy. I was pleasantly surprised on how much I liked this book.

A story about a trouble Private investigator dealing with a mystery in the Florida bass fishing world. A zany cast of characters. Lots of reviews say this author is hilarious. I only had a couple of chuckles. I dare say it’s very American humour. Lol.

Well, I learned more than I ever expected or wanted to learn about fishing, but it was a fun read. Entertaining, especially if you have spent significant time in Florida for some strange reason.

Enjoyable read, but some of the language and situations didn't age well. Overall a fun read. I always enjoy Carl Hiaasen.
