I actually think 3 stars is generous of me. Her sister’s death doesn’t get really delved into even a little bit until chapter 22, yet this is the whole reason these two think they can’t or shouldn’t be together (this is not a spoiler - comes up almost immediately). There’s never an acknowledgement that there’s also the matter of workplace sexual harassment (he works for her!!!). The book would’ve been better if it dealt with her relationship with her sister and parents more instead of minimally in the last few chapters. Also needed to address Grant’s psyche more instead of just surface cover.

This one starts off VERY strong/intense and borderline morbid. The way a love story blossoms from this unfortunate and traumatic moment in each of their lives is honestly done quite well by this author. There are many questions I feel were left unanswered in a way that I felt there are holes in this story. Certain parts felt rushed and like we sort of jumped into certain pivotal moments in their separate lives and their love story. Despite having taken longer than usual to listen to an audiobook this length, I say this was a pretty easy read/listen. I could see this plot being triggering for some so be mindful if you have TWs around death of a sibling, car accidents, grief, and suicide.

This was a great listen that I sped through! Kinda wish I had listened at a slower rate 😆

The narrators did a really good job with the material. And the material was solid. There was drama, there was spice, there was angst. Really hitting my sweet spots.

A note on the spice: it was all vanilla, nothing dark or kinky, but this author knows how to write a 🔥🔥🔥 vanilla scene! So it's still  🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ (out of 5) for me.

AN ABSOLUTE STUNNER. I’m not usually a cryer (and I don’t seek it out in my reads) but all of the emotions in this book were so deep and real and earned that I cried multiple times. On top of that, the chemistry between the MCs was 🔥🥵.

Phenomenally well written, but warnings for LOTS of on-page struggles through grief & trauma rooted in the FMC’s sister unaliving herself by jumping in front of the MMC’s car when they were all teenagers. Layered on top of that are the FMC’s immigrant parents and the distant relationship they all have with each other… I know it sounds like Entirely Too Much, but the MCs felt SO believable and true. The setup felt intense, but deftly managed.
