About a family trying to escape East Germany when the Berlin Wall divided the country. Siblings, Gerta and Fritz show bravery as they work on an escape plan. Throughout the story you never know who is on what side, which adds to the tension of wondering if Gerta's family is going to make it.

A good YA book on the Berlin Wall and the oppression on the eastern side. Book ended suddenly and I wish there was a little more closure.

I love this book because it's a beautifully written book about an era of history that many students never learn about. I highly recommend it for school libraries and student book clubs.

This book is such an exciting book! I have read so many WWII books and know about the atrocities, but thinking about how atrocious the Berlin Wall had been was something I had not considered! This was a page turner that I didn’t want to put down as soon as I started!

I really enjoyed this book and think it would be great for jr high and high school kids. I hadn't previously thought about families and how they would have been separated by the Berlin Wall. I enjoyed the story from a young girl's perspective. It was inspiring and illustrated courage and faith.
