a lot just happened
this is to say, a lot of interesting stuff happened, but 200 or so pages was not enough to fit the expansive plot the author was going for. i loved the characters, even though they were all kind of assholes. Aclide's tale is strangely a ray of queer positivity/hope at the idea that technology and future innovations can change the way queer people live in society for the better. Argenis's story, with the in-and-out time travelling connecting him to a period of colonization and war hundreds of years in the past via art, is also super interesting. and the way these 2 characters are tied together is unexpected but well executed. i just wish there was more time to explore their plotlines because the author introduces all these concepts - futurism and dystopia and time travel and we only get a little taste of each.

Loved this book. I loved the scratchy prose and the confusion. It’s short but dense, I had to go back and re-read some of it, and I still don’t think I got everything. Don’t try and skim it!
It was the best book I have ever read about time travelling sea anemones.
