Moving and heartwarming tale about connecting to one’s culture, overcoming generational family conflict, and learning how to love and be loved in return. Along with the beautiful illustrations that connect readers to the heart of the story, both of the main characters, Val and Jae, each get their own moments to address their pasts and what their futures could look like together. Side characters also get their own little moments, but is balanced with the main characters. While it’s a bit longer than other YA graphic novels, you definitely get the heart and connection that Yang puts into this story. Definitely will check out Yang’s other works.

Um romance que nos mostra alguma da comunidade vietnamita e uma tradição muito interessante com as lions dances.
Todas as reviravoltas neste livro foram bem executadas e fiquei interessada e voltar a conhecer estas personagens.

I went into this book without really knowing what it's about.  I didn't even know it was a graphic novel until recently.  I initially saw it on NetGalley and knew I had to read it because I'll read anything Gene Luen Yang puts out.

This is a lovely teen romance that reminds us that love is not without difficult times, but it should also be easy.  There's a lot of different types of relationships represented, parent-child, best friends, teens dating, and divorce.  I loved how all of the relationships worked in tandem with each other.  It's such a sweet story about love and wanting to have that special someone.

The artwork is beautiful and fits the story well.  And it was released just in time for Lunar New Year.
