I loved this book. I loved the story, characters and of course the ending. Jasmine Guillory doesn't disappoint.

Oh wait. This is supposed to be a beauty and the beast retelling? I definitely missed that.

Isabelle, Izzy, is an editorial assistant at a publishing company, Tale as Old as Time (TAOAT). She’s second guessing her career choices and feeling unhappy and unsupported with her current situation when the opportunity arises to manage an important, famous writer/client. The client is a mysterious hot head, Beau Towers, who has disappeared from the public eye as of late, but has signed on to write an exclusive memoir. The only problem is the memoir is way overdue and TAOAT is ready to give up on Beau.

The wedding date series, by the same author, has been only ok for me. But I really like the main character, Isabelle, in this one. I appreciated both characters’ development during the story. If you like slow burn romance, with no sex, this one’s for you.

Also, if anyone is confused, like me, about why you can’t easily find the first book in the “Meant to Be” series…it’s because it’s by a different author. Julie Murphy, If The Shoe Fits. Odd.

I'm a big fan of Guillory's books, but this one read almost as if someone else wrote or edited it. It lacks her typical banter and is very closed door. The only thing more frustrating than the lack of physical contact is the frustratingly detailed accounts of the writing process. Overall, the book felt like nonstop food, angst, and word counts, and by the middle was starting to make me feel stressed reading it. When they finally did kiss, they stopped MULTIPLE times to go get snacks, which was the final straw for me. (Except if either of them heard me say "the final straw" they probably would have got up to go make a milkshake, transporting us straight to If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.)

I'm still a Guillory stan and can't wait to read whatever she reads next, but the cuteness of the Beauty and the Beast adaptation wasn't enough to counteract the tediousness of this book for me.

**UPDATED FROM 3 TO A 3.5 (June 10/22)**

I had to raise my rating because this book has changed the way we load a dishwasher. I'm not even kidding! In the book, Isabelle teaches Beau how to load a dishwasher and she tells him to group the cutlery by type so it's easier when you unload it and that was A GAME CHANGER! I can't believe I've never heard or thought of that in all my years on this earth, like-- WHAT?! So, thank you Ms. Guillory. 3.5/5

This was cute! I’ve enjoyed other Jasmine Guillory books a bit more than this one, but I’m not sure how much control Disney had over the writing process of this book, so that may be a factor.
