This book is something special. It explores the relationship between human and beast in such an honest, deep, and intuitive way. It explores mercy, kindness, and kinship. It's a beautiful book with deep themes.
And I was so so so pleased with the ending. It was veering into a direction I was worried about, but on the last page, all was as I hoped.

I liked the premise, but I feel like there needed to be…more. I gave no fucks about Shunan because I felt like there wasn’t enough time to develop his character. Same thing with everyone else in the royal retinue. I found the switching POVs difficult because of this, like I just wanted to know more about how Elin was doing, and because I didn’t care about the royalty side of things, the plot and the story kind of fell flat for me.
