god I tried so hard to finish this, I was so excited to meet an older Lyra and see where her story was going to go but Phillip just had to go and be a creep by having Malcolm fall in love with her??? It's just creepy and pedophilic! I tried to pick it up several times to just finish it and see what was going to happen but I couldn't get over this love plot line. Malcolm new her and helped look after her as a baby its just fucked in my opinion.Spoiler

A joy to return to Lyra's world, explore the Secret Commonwealth, and navigate the question of skepticism - and of losing a part of yourself as you grow up. My discomfort with the relationship between Malcolm and Lyra did, however, detract from my enjoyment overall. Describing a teacher feeling sexual attraction towards his fourteen-year-old student -- not great Phil, no matter how much you remind us they're both adults in the current timeline.
Graphic: Sexual assault
Moderate: Pedophilia
