not in the right mood for this right now and the old fashioned language makes it even more difficult. will try again later.

I found only a handful of Poe's short stories actually interesting. His poems were to rhyme-y for my tastes. In short, this book was not my jam.

I read this as a kid. I have no idea why that happened. I distinctly remember making my parents let me buy a hardcover with the creepy AF Arthur Rackham illustrations at the W. B. Dalton's bookstore in the mall when I was like... a child that should have been reading like, picture books with far fewer words. (I may have been like... 7? Younger?) The '80s were truly a weird time. I also ran around outside miles from home until dark with a jackknife and a hatchet.

Oct 31, 2018: I read the story “The Black Cat” because no Halloween is complete without a little Poe in the mix. I’ve actually not read this short story before (though I’ve read several, mostly in high school...”The Tell-Tale Heart” anyone?) so it was fun to check it out, especially today!

Oct 30, 2022: Clearly I have a penchant for Poe around Halloween. I bought this illustrated copy earlier this month, so I am moving over my previous review of the short stories to this one! The main addition to reading today is The Fall of the House of Usher, a classic and one I’m not sure I read in high school!

Oct 24, 2023: It’s spooky season! So here I am again, reading my man Poe. I’m also watching the excellent “The Fall of the House of Usher” on Netflix, so I read The Masque of the Red Death to compare and contrast!

Easy to read and fall in love with. After all, Poe never lets me down, his tales are one of a kind.
