it took FAR too long to get into the “main” crime of this book, it felt like the first 300 pages were just pure characterisation - an unnecessary use of time / pages because it then made the main crime feel rushed. but none the less once the main crime arrived the hook was okay.
the characters lack loveable traits apart from marcus & jo, and atkinson’s continuous flipping between focalisation & characters within diaglogue becomes confusing & distorting
overall i wouldn’t rush to read another atkinson book & i don’t plan to re-read this or recommend
