Wish I had a book club that we were doing this in, it's all the things we have been learning about (Flow/ Mindfulness/ Embracing Imperfection) but all in one location. I skimmed big parts of it because I felt like I had already been doing the work but it would have been nice to have that female group to meet with and help each other empower each other.

This was fine. I got a lot out of the resentment section but others were too preachy for me. Not revolutionary.

I wasn't completely sold on everything in here, but I got a lot out of the topics of dealing with resentment and adding kindness to your life.

Any personal development book from which I gather a nugget of truth deserves at least 4 stars--this gets 5. I've read a decent amount of these books. This one takes a set of principles and builds on them one after the other. Much of what the authors said I already knew on some level, but they stated it in a way I understood. The best nugget I took from the book was how to structure my day around the things that bring me joy.

I won't lie--the fifth star may also come from my deep abiding love for Gillian Anderson... but the book was really really good on its own merits!

I have to admit that I am one of those readers that only purchased this book because i am a massive Gillian Anderson fan (as I'm sure many others have done.) I had read a few articles on the book prior to release but this turned out to be far more 'self help' and less activist than I had been lead to believe.
This is the first self help book I have ever read and I can only say that I wish someone had given me this book 10 years ago. it would have saved me a lot of self discovery and battling through mental health on my own. I do feel as if some aspects were, to me especially, preaching to the converted but I was comforted by the thought that a lot of principals i had come to on my own were validated by other women- Especially when it comes to self care.
I would consider passing this book onto friends and following the suggestion that you treat the journey as an experiment, I have found that it has already helped me and I can see myself referring back to it in future- especially the section on fear and peace.
My only criticism is that i wish it was more intersectional, it has the potential to include so much more and as a proud feminist I felt it could have gone a lot deeper.

There were some interesting parts in here, and some things that resonated, but halfway through I just couldn't do it anymore. It was too preachy, too obvious... If this book was a women's weekend workshop, it would probably be awesome. But as a book? I just couldn't stay interested.

Mostly read for Gillian's parts. I think I'd read this again at a different time, some of it seemed good, but I don't know if I'm ready to jump in.

I wanted to like this book a lot more. It has some very good messages about self care, how to handle difficult situations, and how to support other women and change the world. But there was too much emphasis on spirituality and how the 9 Principles can change everything in your life - a little too hokey in my mind.

2.7 The first book this year that I’ve struggled to finish. I wanted to like it more than I did. It was insightful, uplifting and puts forth ideas that I have paid attention to and will try and make a part of my life, but it was too long. I think it could have been tightened up and written better and stronger over far fewer pages. I quite enjoyed the first 100 or so pages but after the first couple of principles I started to get a bit bored. Every now and then there was a paragraph that resonated but then my interest waned again. A really good idea and very positive but in my opinion, sadly just not written very well.
