Okay so, before reading this book I had seen the movie and the TV show, so I pretty much knew what was going to happen, but, honestly, I was so surprissed with all the things that happened. I know that cinematic-addaptations or on-screen-addaptations don't always include every little detail, but everything in this book hjust made me more suprised every time.
I loved every single part of it. It made me yell, cry, laugh until my eyes were filled with tears, but it also made me so angry.
There are also somethings which are really hard for me to picture, like for example Luke with glasses, or a fifteen-year-old pale Raphael Santiago.
I'm going to addmit that the only reason I picked up this book is because my bestfriend had told me one and a million times to read it, and I am so happy I finally decided to pick up this wonderfull book.
Cassie's writing just wrapped me inside this beautiful story, and has forever changed my perspective of the supernatural world, cause now I know: all the stories are true.

This book is garbage.
I yelled, “THIS BOOK IS GARBAGE!” to my husband many, many times while reading it.
Because it is a first novel, I decided to give some grace and am now halfway through the second book which, while not MUCH better than the first, is slightly better written, though somehow less interesting.
No one is likable, nor are their reasons for being attracted to each other clear. They’re whiny and mean and aggressive for no reason. The descriptions of fashion are painful, the character tropes are tired, and everything looks like a horrible trip to a rave in 2004. It’s just ... not good.
Also, SPOILER
brother/sister love is NOT OKAY. EVEN if they turn out not to be (which, dear god, is the ONLY way to salvage this mess) they still THOUGHT they were and WISHED they weren’t and that is messed up. That’s messed up, people.
In conclusion, this is an uncomfortable, awkward, classless, mess of a book. Read Tehereh Mafi’s books instead.

Listen. Are these books literary masterpieces? No. Do they bring back fond memories of reading them as a teen? Yup. I still love this series. Probably mostly because of the nostalgia, but whatever.

I really don’t know how I feel about Jace and Clary being brother and sister. I knew it was coming but I’m also not sure if it is true…. I have feelings

Listened to this on audiobook and did not like the person who was narrating. She didn't really do a good job to me. I am thinking I am going to end up liking The Infernal Devices more than this but will continue with the series as I do want to read Lady Midnight and see where the story evolves. The story was okay so far not sure I like Clary and as I understand it does get better. 3 stars because it was just okay and perhaps I shouldn't have seen the movie when it came to dvd years ago.

In a series, the first book is a crucial one for it holds the judgment of readers. A reader might like it or hate it. Liking it means finishing the series. For this book, I was hooked to it. Not because it was already famous by the time I started reading it but for the reason that it fascinates me.
I really like everything in the book, from the characters to story line. The shadowhunter and downworlders world were introduced slowly and it made me stick more to reading it because I want to know more of their world.
I got to adore the characters; Clare, Simon, Jace, Isabel, Alec and the others. They have their own characteristics that they bring to the readers.
It is a book filled with action, suspense, romance and comedy that suits all ages.
A must read and I am so excited for the TV series. :)

first book I’m going to DNF :’(
I did not click well with this book at all, beginning was okay but then I got quickly bored.
Jace didn’t interest me at all despite being the supposed love interest
Clary made me annoyed most of the times and I got bored of her too, and books dont go well when I don’t like the main character all ready so soon.
also, incest ? :D hopefully not
I WILL be moving on to The Invernal Devices series however because I heard those are wayyyyy better and I’m obsessed with the love triangle trope.
I’m glad some people got to enjoy this book but I just couldn’t do it
I’ll be generous with 2 stars (my lowest rating on a book so far)
