While this book is beautifully written and it has an interesting plot, the child sexual abuse was just too much for me. I would put the book down and dread picking it back up, so I think this is just a moment of recognizing my bodies limits.

An adult dystopian masterpiece like no other. The main character’s development is immaculate.

I loved how Syen was a unique view into motherhood, and how Essun looked at motherhood so differently that it’s almost unbelievable that they are the same person.

Best fantasy book I've ever read. I understand the reviews now. Everything lead to its inevitable end. We should really figure out climate change.

N.K. Jemisin has mastered the fantasy genre. This book is everything and more, words cannot describe how fantastic this book is. If you're looking for an in-depth, explorative, raw fantasy, look no further.

This book shook me to my core (very thematic too!)
Every word, every chapter builds up to this last sentence. I am not coherent anymore, but read this! The writing is phenomenal. Be mindful of the TW

I read this after I listened to The End of the World Book Club podcast discussing it.
Definitely different to my usual reads, but I'm enjoying the fantasy/sci-fi/climate crisis crossovers. I saw the twists coming unfortunately, but will probably still pick up the rest of the series later this year.

I haven't read something I loved this much in a long time, can't wait for the second one. Besides the amazing worldbuilding and interesting structure, which I always enjoy, it has great representation! Probably the best representation I've read.
