As I was listening to this, I kept thinking about how much this story has been integrated into contemporary pop culture. It's easy to assume that this sort of story has always been a part of our cultural narrative, but I tried to appreciate how influential The War of the Worlds really is.

A solid 4 Stars. Glad to have finally got around to reading this Classic Sci-Fi!

Probably just me but would have liked to have had a bit more written about the machines BUT its about the survival of humans and how that might deal with the situation of an "alien attack", so it's not that bad.

Still very much enjoyed it and definitely recommend this classic book!

I had never read the unabridged version of this book so I thought I would give it a try. It is much more engaging than I expected and is more of a thriller as well.
the guy he comes back in contact with near the end of the book is a piece of work that really turned my stomach

Written in beautiful prose, suspenseful without dragging on, and finishing exactly where I did not expect. Most worthy of all its praises.

"This isn't a war, said the artilleryman. "It never was a war, any more than there's war between man and ants.” The book war of worlds by HG Wells presents an interesting perspective on extraterrestrial beings. Though there are many inconsistencies throughout the book in regards to the Martians the story overall was OK. The war of the worlds is a notable book because through HG Wells contribution to the Syfy community in the 1930s many other books were able to arise and present more cohesive stories about extraterrestrials . In short HG Wells book war of the worlds ran so later Syfy books could walk.

This was alright. I had never actually read this, and it was good. I definitely don't want aliens to show up like this.
