The first two chapters were great and had some really useful thoughts and ideas. The rest of the book was kind of silly and kept repeating itself. A quick read, but I'm not sure how useful it will be overall. His book on babies was CRUCIAL to survival though!

As always, Dr. Karp is the best! I recommend his books to all new parents!

Good info. I loved Karp's Happiest Baby on the Block book. This has some helpful points too and will continue to be a reference book for me!

Some interesting ideas, but most of his tips were either ones I already knew (like pay attention to your kid when he's being good) or way too weird (like mirror his tantrum back at him and clap/growl at him to warn him when he misbehaves). His infant book was super helpful, though, so I'm glad I gave it a try.

I will revisit this a ton! Every page had an “aha” for me, and it always has me excited about a new perspective or technique. Highly recommend.

We will see how my rating changes once I start using these tips.

The techniques discussed in the book are simple, and I am glad to have an alternative to discipline than what I was taught.

This made its way onto my "want to purchase" list. The complaint I have heard most about this book is the section on Toddlerese. I don't have a problem with it and it has actually helped on the few occasions I remember to use it.

I read this REALLY slowly, which means I can barely remember the advice at the beginning. BUT I have tried to implement some of the advice and it seems to work really well with my son for the past 6-mo. The most valuable thing I have learned is that instead of immediately telling your child "no", relate back to them what it is that they want so they understand that you understand what it is they want. For some reason, it helps them calm down and be more understanding when you give a no (and a reason for the no). I think I will refer to this occasionally, and may read it again.
