I did it, I did it!!! I finally read this book and before Christmas Day ended. It is a story we all know well and could tell in our sleep as most of us watch a film version during the holidays. I have always put this novel off as Dickens is so depressing and I felt like since I knew the story maybe I would not enjoy it as much. From the first page I was hooked and I loved the narrator’s tone. It was not depressing but instead very uplifting that it is never too late to change. This thin novel invoked many emotions – of sadness, anger, compassion, forgiveness, happiness and hope – and that was just from me as a reader. I think it is a novel I will read again – it is a perfect novel to read out loud. If you have been avoiding this novel for any reason you may wish to reconsider as you are missing out on a holiday classic.

This is my second year reading A Christmas Carol on Christmas, and I'm  happy to make it a permanent tradition. It's a quick read with a beautifully streamlined plot, and it's as charming and feel-good as the movie adaptations I grew up with. If you only read one Dickens novel, I highly recommend this one.
