I like the idea of a Robin story narrated by Dick Grayson. But I think the tone was extremely inconstant.
SpoilerThe ending is too happy for the dark, almost-abusive way Bruce acted throughout the story.

I think it is difficult to square someone allowing a twelve-year-old to dress up in a costume and fight crime and also being a good father. If you’re going for realism, which seemed to the the case with this more introspective story, you can’t really have it both ways.

I enjoyed the art and some of the points it seemed the book was trying to make. (I appreciate that it does, at least, affirm that Dick Grayson is, was, and has always been “the angry Robin.”)

Interesting take on year one robin. Beautiful art, really fits the haunting but hopeful tone of the book.

An impeccably crafted limited series about the early beginnings of the dynamic duo from the perspective of Robin (aka Dick Grayson). Lemire wonderfully captured Grayson's Robin and the contrast that he represents in relation to Batman. Dustin Nguyen's art-style is well-suited to the story as it is expressive and highly dynamic (pun intended), which complements both the characters and the narrative of a young hero-in-training. This is Robin through and through; hopeful, sharp, and unafraid to go into the darkness. Definitely one of my favorite reads of the year.

"I don't have to be the dark. I can be the light." —Dick Grayson, #3

I LOVE THE ART STYLE. I LOVE THE WRITING. IT WAS SOOOOO GOOD!!! it's a darker look into dick's origin story, very messy, very real, very human and i love that
